Lawrence Mier

  Lawrence Mier earned his Master of Science degree in anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  He has worked in the field of archaeology since 1979.  Prior to joining the CMN staff, he worked at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee archaeological laboratory, Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Great Lakes Archaeological Research Center in Milwaukee, and the Center for Archaeology at Marquette University. 
 
Lawrence came to the College of Menominee Nation in August of 2007, but has worked on the reservation as an archaeologist since 1988.  As a research associate for CMN Center for Cultural Research, he is responsible for supervision and coordination of all field and laboratory archaeological investigations conducted within the Menominee Indian Reservation and works in close association with the Menominee Tribal Historic Preservation Officer. 
 
 
Lawrence is currently on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Archaeological Society, as well as a member of the Wisconsin Archeological Survey, the Society for Historical Archaeology, the Forest History Association of Wisconsin and the Michigan Archaeological Society. 

As an historical archaeologist, his research interests include: Wisconsin logging history, particularly the identification and application of archaeological mapping of logging camps, pre-1920 Menominee homesteads, as well as Native American Indian mounds.  His archaeological interests include: the identification of historic ceramics, bottles, marbles, glass beads, and firearm cartridges.  As a hobby he enjoys US Military history, with an emphasis on Marine Corps history and the restoration of World War I firearms.
