Keshena Campus Has New Community Technology Center

KESHENA, WI - The Community Technology Center on the Keshena campus of the College of Menominee Nation is designed to provide high-speed internet access for people living in local and surrounding communities. The new facility is located on the College campus at N172 State Highway 47-55 in Keshena.

The center will provide the general public with internet access, on-site use of computer equipment, and a variety of learning opportunities. Programs at the center will include technology-based community education and critically needed community support and job training. This project is made possible through funding received by the College of Menominee Nation from the Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP), a Federal initiative under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The initiative is designed to increase broadband access and use by under-served populations in areas with limited internet availability.

The Center will open seven days a week for walk-in users and program participants. Patrons will find the following technology-based activities offered concurrently:

  • Open Lab for general public use
  • Workshops to meet the needs of all people—regardless of ability or need
  • Skill building activities including GED, math, reading, andcareer exploration and placement
  • Certificate/technical diploma job training (using technology equipment)

The Center is hosting a series of free weekly activities through August 17. Participants who attend at least 7 activities will be entered into a drawing to receive participation prizes including an iPad, Xoom, Nook, Kindle Fire, or one of 25 iPod Nanos.
