CMN STUDENTS

Canvas

CMN has implemented a new Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. Canvas is a web-based LMS that efficiently connects faculty and students to support online learning and teaching. It allows faculty to share course content, post grades, and provide assignments. Faculty have been diligently working on getting their courses created.

You will be receiving an emailed invitation to join each of the course(s) that will be utilizing Canvas this semester.

Please be sure to check your CMN student email frequently.

Contact your Instructor with questions specific to your course.

Course Offerings

Traditional Face-to-Face on-campus lectures and in-class discussions

The instructor lectures and facilitates class discussion in the face-to-face classes and then students complete assignments based on these classroom activities.

Technically supported Online instruction accomplished entirely off campus

All course activity is done online; there are no required face-to-face sessions within the course and no requirements for on-campus activity. The instructor uses a learning management system for students to participate in online forums using online tools to facilitate discussion and interaction. All coursework is completed using the learning management system.

Flexibly planned Hybrid courses including in-person and web-based online work

Hybrid courses include a combination of face-to-face in-person classes, face-to-face online classes, and web-based online work. In a hybrid course, up to 74% of the course may be delivered online either synchronously (a class learns all together) or asynchronously (class members can learn at their own time). There is some flexibility in how the course is offered with some of the traditional face-to-face instruction being replaced with web-based online learning (e.g., video lectures, online discussions, or other class activities) via the Learning Management System. Face-to-face in-person time requirements will vary between hybrid courses and will be determined by the instructor.

Hands-on Lab and Shop learning flexibly scheduled for low-contact safety

The instructor uses a learning management system which enables students to participate in online forums using online tools to facilitate discussion and interaction. Students then come to the lab for hands-on learning. Some face-to-face labs may also be replaced by virtual, online ones.
