CMN Sponsors 2021 Faculty of the Year

This year “Faculty Member of the Year” was sponsored by the College of Menominee Nation. CMN announced Dr. Lauren “Candy” Waukau-Villagomez as the recipient for the Faculty of the Year award at the 2021 Commencement Ceremony to share in the celebration with graduates held on May 22, 2021.

The students, staff, and faculty affectionately refer to Dr. Waukau-Villagomez as “Dr. Candy.” Dr. Waukau-Villagomez has been with the College of Menominee Nation for over ten years, mentoring and setting high standards for our students in the Teacher Education Program. She enjoys teaching courses in the College’s Education Program to prepare future educators for our communities with a knowledge and understanding of cultural experiences for all children. She extends this passion for education beyond our CMN classrooms with the work she completes in the community and shares this passion with her students as she invites them to share in this community work.

Dr. Waukau-Villagomez’s dedication to her community is an exhaustive list that includes giving presentations and workshops for numerous academic institutions/organizations, being a published academic author, maintaining a free library outside her house for neighborhood children, collecting donations for Head Start caps and mittens and collaborating in the development and publication for their Menominee Language curriculum. Dr. Waukau-Villagomez was also named the 2021 Elder of the Year by the Wisconsin Indian Education Association. The administration, faculty, staff, and students of CMN are blessed to have such an accomplished instructor here at the College of Menominee Nation.
